⭐️Teacher Tuesday⭐️ Meet 4th grade co-teacher, Ms. Christina Spangler . . . Ms. Spangler is an alumna of St. John Neumann. She began in 1997 (the first year the school opened) and attended through eighth grade. After SJN, she attended Knoxville Catholic High School. While at Catholic, she was a member of the pep band, basketball, and softball teams. While attending the University of Tennessee, she played the trumpet in the Pride of the Southland Band. Christina knew she had a passion for working with kids and wanted to pursue a career in Education. After graduating with a Bachelors in Psychology, she attended Lincoln Memorial University and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Spangler has worked in our BAC program since 2014. She has also taught in both public schools and at a charter school in Knox County. When Ms. Spangler is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as cooking with her fiancé, refinishing furniture, reading a good book, and spending her free days at the barn with her horse Peaches. She loves UT football games, chocolate, and the color blue. Ms. Spangler is excited to be joining the SJNCS family and is looking forward to all the fun she and her students will be having in fourth grade this year! ______________________________________________ Below is a picture of Ms. Spangler during her time at SJNCS as well as a recent one. ⭐️Teacher Tuesday⭐️ Meet our new 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Ashley Chiaro . . . Mrs. Chiaro was born and raised in a small town in southwestern Virginia. After graduating from The University of Virginia's College at Wise with a degree in Elementary Education, she knew she wanted to move to an area with a larger, more active Catholic population. In 2013, she was blessed to accept her first teaching position at Saint Anne Catholic School in Bristol, Virginia, as their Pre-3 teacher. Even though she loved SAS and her wonderful students there, she truly missed her family. She moved to Knoxville to be closer to her dad and sister in 2014. Shortly after moving to Knoxville, Mrs. Chiaro worked for Knox County Schools teaching first grade. In 2016 she was offered a position as a teaching assistant at Saint Joseph School and spent the last three years there in a variety of roles. In 2018 she obtained her M Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. When she is not teaching, Mrs. Chiaro loves spending time with her friends and family, especially her husband Vince and their dog, a maltese poodle mix named Linus. She enjoys curling up with a good book and nice hot cup of coffee, crocheting projects for loved ones, traveling to new places, almost anything Disney, the color pink, group fitness classes, watching sports, and having family and friends over for dinner to try new recipes from her small collection of cookbooks. She and her husband are parishoners at Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church in Knoxville where they serve as co-leaders of the high school faith formation program. Although she loves and will miss her SJS family, she is ecstatic to become a part of the SJNCS family this year. ⭐️Teacher Tuesday⭐️ Meet our new MS religion teacher, Ms. Therese Benz . . . Ms. Benz grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but is very excited to be heading to Tennessee to teach at St. John Neumann! She attended Catholic school for both grade school and high school, and just graduated in 2019 from the University of Notre Dame, where she majored in English and Pre-Med, and minored in Theology. She will be joining SJNCS for the next two years through Notre Dame’s Echo Program, during which she will earn her M.A. in Theology. In addition to loving a good cup of tea, any British novel, and her seven siblings, Ms. Benz is absolutely thrilled to be teaching theology! Among other experiences, it was serving as a catechist in a South Bend parish throughout undergrad and interning at a Catholic school while studying abroad in London which drew her to pursue teaching after graduation. 🤩Fantastic Fact🤩 SJNCS’ Tiny Saints (St. Vincent de Paul) Service Ministry began in 2017 and is the only one of its kind in the state of Tennessee. This youth branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul places an emphasis on God’s call of grace. It promotes the desire to engage in the process of formation of our students to advance in holiness of life as well as mentor them with hope and skills to better serve those who are in need. Tiny Saints is open to grades 3-8 and meets monthly after school August-May. Be on the lookout for more information in your child's Friday Folder this coming year! #sjnknox #TinySaints #SVdPSociety

Help us to continue to earn money for SJNCS by continuing to clip any current Box Tops and also by downloading the new app to start uploading your reciepts to see if you have any participating items. CLIP: Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip them and send them to school - just make sure they're not expired! SCAN: If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to the school's earnings online.
⭐️Teacher Tuesday⭐️ Meet our new PK3 Teacher, Mrs. Vanessa Draeger . . . Mrs. Draeger was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School. She and her husband recently moved back to Knoxville from Chattanooga. While living in Chattanooga, they were members of St. Jude Catholic Church. Mrs. Draeger holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Marketing and a M.Ed in Early Childhood and Special Education from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She has taught at Siskin Children’s Institute in their inclusion preschool for the past 5 years. Through her experience, Mrs. Draeger understands the importance of differentiated instruction to best meet the needs of her students. She enjoys building relationships with her students to help them excel. Mrs. Draeger met her husband Greg in college while they were both working on their undergraduate degrees. They have been married for 12 years. They have a Boxer/Great Dane mix named Maximus. Mrs. Draeger is extremely excited to be a new member of the SJNCS faculty and looks forward to meeting her students and their families this fall! This week’s all sports camp was just what these kids needed! In just three days they learned about and practiced basketball, kickball, track, football, soccer, baseball and spiderball (a fun teamwork game). SJN and KCHS alumni Jack Sompayrac and Mary Iverson also volunteered their time alongside Mrs. Sompayrac to make for one great camp! #sjncsknox #allsports #summercamp
SJNCS students that are new to band spent the past week at Camp Irish's band camp learning fundamentals of playing an instrument. Current band students participated in afternoon sessions, and some also served during leadership camp spending their mornings teaching and helping their fellow middle schoolers learn a new instrument! The week ended with a concert at KCHS. It is amazing to see how much these students have accomplished in one short week guided by incredibly passionate band teachers and musicians.
